SAR Requirements and Application Information
Applicants must be able to demonstrate three years of appraisal and/or appraisal review experience. Direct Endorsement underwriters with three or more years of experience automatically meet the experience requirement. The experience requirements are outlined in section 15.01 of the VA Lender's Handbook. Lenders must have automatic underwriting approval. Once an automatic lender has an approved SAR on staff, that lender is approved for LAPP.
In order to apply, an applicant must complete the LAPP application form (Exhibit 1 of Chapter 15 of the VA Lender's Handbook) and submit it to the local VA Regional Office for their state along with a resume showing that the experience requirements have been met. There is $100.00 application fee.
Once approved, the new SAR must complete training with the local Regional Office and successfully complete five test cases. When these requirements have been met, VA will issue a final approval letter which allows the new SAR to review appraisals in every state. It is the SAR's responsibility to contact local Regional Offices to find out about any local appraisal requirements.
SARs moving to a new company will have to complete an application form and submit another $100.00 fee, but SARs with final approval will not have to redo the training or test cases.
