Benefits

Compensation benefits are paid to veterans who are disabled by disease or injury incurred, or aggravated, during military service.

Pension benefits are paid as an income supplement for veterans of wartime service who are permanently and totally disabled due to non-service-connected disabilities. Widows and children of veterans who died of non-service-connected causes also are eligible for pension benefits.

The Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment program is designed to assist service disabled veterans and service members whose disabilities constitute a handicap in obtaining suitable employment. Counseling Psychologists and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors provide counseling to help veterans and service members arrive at sound decisions about their employment goals. Also, counseling is provided as requested or required by regulation for the children and spouses of veterans who died or were permanently and totally disabled as the result of service-connected disabilities.

All Section 901, Chapter 32, educational assistance benefit payments to beneficiaries are processed by the Waco Regional Office. This responsibility includes awarding, computing, and maintaining payment records for both subsistence and assistance payments. The program, which is administered by VA on behalf of the Department of Defense, has the potential of 6,700 beneficiaries.
