Transportation
Information
Albuquerque is well served by air, rail, and highway
connections with many cities in the Western United
States. While there are many factors, including cost,
that may influence your choice of a mode of
transportation to/from Albuquerque, there are some
factors that need to be considered.
If you are considering
driving...
Parking:
The Veterans Service Division is located on the second floor. Vocational Rehabilitation
and Education is on the third floor. The Regional Office does not have a parking lot, so
parking needs to be obtained on the street at a meter, or in a public
parking lot or garage.
From western New Mexico:
Take I-40 east. Exit at 6th Street and turn right(south) on 6th. Continue
for about 1 3/4 miles. You will pass Lomas boulevard and Central Avenue.
One block past Central Avenue, turn left(east) on Gold Avenue. The building is on your right.
From eastern New Mexico:
Take I-40 west to I-25 South. Exit at the Central Avenue/Martin Luther King exit.
Go past Martin Luther King, and turn right on Central, and drive(west)
for about 9/10 of a mile. Turn left on 5th street.
The building is one block down at the southwest corner of 5th and Gold.
From northern New Mexico:
Take I-25 south. Exit at the Central Avenue/Martin Luther King exit. Go past
Martin Luther King, and turn right on Central, driving west for about
9/10 of a mile. Turn left(south)on 5th Street. The building is one block
down at the southwest corner of 5th and Gold.
From southern New Mexico:
Take I-25 north. Exit at the Lead/Coal exit, and turn left and drive west on Lead
for about 1 mile. Turn right on 5th street and drive two blocks north to Gold Avenue.
The building will be on your left, on the southwest corner of 5th and Gold.
If you are considering
flying...
Albuquerque International Airport is located at the
southern perimeter of the city and it is served by many
major U.S. airlines, including Southwest Airlines. The
airport seldom experiences weather delays, but can be
impacted by delays or cancellations at other sites. There
are several major car rental agencies in the main
terminal and direct shuttle service to the larger hotels
in the city.
If you are considering use of
Amtrak...
Amtrak has a stop in Albuquerque, but is seldom used
as a primary travel mode for business purposes.
Once you get here...
Taxis are plentiful at the airport and at most hotels.
Taxis are also fairly expensive. In most circumstances, a
car rental is a better alternative. Due to the small
geographic size of the city, most locations visited or
attended in the city will be within a ten mile radius.
