National Cemeteries in New Mexico There is nothing that needs to
be done prior to being placed at one of our National
Cemeteries. Arrangements are made at the time of death,
and are made by the next of kin and the funeral home. A
spouse can also be placed at one of our cemeteries.
The Santa Fe National Cemetery is a full scale cemetery.
It was recognized as a National Cemetery in 1892, and has
been expanded many times since then. Currently it covers 99 acres which
consists of over 3400 burials. Over 500 internments in the
cemetery are unknowns. An additional 17 acres adjacent to it
have been developed and will yield additional grave space until
approximately year 2015.
The Santa Fe National Cemetery is a National Shrine for
those who fought for our freedom.
The Fort Bayard National Cemetery is right between Bayard
and Silver City, New Mexico and is maintained by Fort
Bliss, Texas at (915) 564-0201. Both can be reached at the numbers listed
