Energy Source Fitness Center

The Energy Source Fitness Center opened in June 1988.  The principle goal of the center is to promote the general health and well being of VA employees located at 5000 Wissahickon Avenue. Two full-time certified exercise physiologists are on staff to assist all members.  The facility is equipped with various pieces of equipment that are designed to compliment the center's emphasis on wellness and aerobic fitness.  Locker rooms with shower facilities are also available for both men and women.

The Fitness Center application process includes a medical and physical fitness assessment and an orientation to the program.  Each potential member must receive a physician's clearance before participating in physical activity.  On the basis of the fitness evaluation, each member is provided an individual exercise prescription for a safe and challenging workout.  Measures such as flexibility, muscular strength, endurance, aerobic capacity and percent body fat are taken and reassessed at regular intervals to monitor progress.  New members also receive a thorough, personalized orientation to each piece of equipment in the center and are taught how to properly stretch, warm up and cool down to avoid injuries when exercising.  Currently, there are over 263 active members.
